| Anonymous | Friday, October 08, 1999 - 06:35 am Dear Marty, I've tried to register but have no password. Something prevented my e-mail to Stephanie even though I clicked on her address listed in the "contact" page. I think I clicked on Register in too many places or times. I'd like to change my "profile" I thought it was meant for what practice are we doing? etc. so we could participate in private practice discussions. I'm not sure how to do this . Thanks for your patience with this technopeasant. Lillian P.S. Do I need a separate e-mail for the practice forum. I don't quite understand. |
| Martin Marvet (Marty) | Friday, October 08, 1999 - 08:21 am Hi Lillian, You seem to know your way around the forums, so you don't need to worry. Sometimes email doesn't work when you click on a browser because your email program is not set up correctly. In such a case, you can try to right click and copy the URL and then paste it into your email. Regarding your registration, you actually registered before the practice forum opened up, resulting in a small snag. However, a response should be emailed to you soon. You have to be patient with the technonerds running the software who are still fumbling around trying to make everything work right. Marty |
| Martin Marvet (Marty) | Friday, October 08, 1999 - 04:10 pm Hello, In answer to an inquiry from Jonathan, I will post here. To add bold formatting to your message, you need to add a simple formatting command: \b{text}. The code works like this: the backslash is a special indicator to the system to look at the next command. The b tells the system to make whatever follows in the {} brackets bold. So put text between the {} and text will show up in bold. You can test this in the preview box before you post. You can see other formatting commands and get an explanation of how to do a lot by clicking on the "formatting" link in the left frame. Marty |
| Kamala Kerr | Sunday, November 14, 1999 - 07:41 pm Hello I posted a message a week or so ago but it hasn't appeared in the bulletin board. Feeling paranoid that it was edited out. Perhaps it's just a lack of skill in the techno stuff. If it just hasn't been received could you please let me know. Do I have an "account"? hoping for some help Thanks |
| Martin Marvet (Marty) | Monday, November 15, 1999 - 09:01 am Hi Kamala, No message from you was edited or deleted. You may have failed to post properly, but we cannot tell. Since you posted the above message properly, you know how to do it (after you write your message, you must click on "preview/post message" and then click again on "post this message" in the next series of screens). If you think this may have happened, you should just try again and pay close attention to the screens. Alternatively, your message may have been posted, but you just are not able to see it for some reason. A message from you was posted on November 2, to the following: Quote:By Georgina Kamala Kerr on Tuesday, November 2, 1999 - 01:58 am: Hello accross the globe. My name is Kamala from Melbourne in Australia. I hope to share some thoughts from "the land down under" and look forward to the possibility of making a meaningfull connection with Dharma friends. Last November Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche came to Australia and I had the good fortune to meet him. As I listended to him teaching, his body, speech and mind seemed to transform me. I felt like a little mite at the base of an awesome mountain, I want very much to keep in touch and have been singing the songs. What does Nalandacodhi mean. Maybe soon I will meet Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, I'm looking forward to it already!
This message is on the board. If this is the message you are referring to, but you cannot see it, it may be caused by your web browser not displaying the page properly. This issue is covered in the "Troubleshooting" section. Click on Troubleshooting (in the left hand frame) and then click on the question "My post does not show up". That explains how it is necessary to refresh your browser cache sometimes. You can also use the keyword search to search for your message. (Make sure to search in the sender name, not message text). This may automatically refresh your cache and bring you to your message. Hope this helps. Marty |
| Kamala | Friday, November 19, 1999 - 03:58 am Thanks for your reasurrance Marty, I sent a message after the one you quoted, I guess I must just not have sent it properly. What a shame since I sweated over for so long. Being a bit of a techno peasant and a bit self conscious as well has it's drawbacks. I love to read the BBS as it keeps me in touch with the spirit of Khenpo Rinpoche. I am able to see my original message OK and will try sending to the BBS again. Thanks again. kamala |
| oona | Saturday, December 11, 1999 - 02:34 pm Dear Marty, Hi. I just wrote a message to Julie and I forgot something. So, when I went back to try to access "sangha conversation" and get to the place to add a message, (either by going to "last day" or going to my own message) it takes me to the top, to the archived messages. When I scroll down to try to get to the bottom, I get to a lot of computer language. Julie, I just forgot to tell you that my mother's name is Daia (pronounced Day-ah) Gerson. Thanks for all your help, Marty, Oona |
| Martin Marvet (Marty) | Saturday, December 11, 1999 - 09:02 pm Hi Oona, I looked at the BBS and found it working properly on my system. Sometimes there is just a glitch in the wires and the code gets garbled in a person's browser, and it is not indicative of a problem with the server. Best to try it over again another time to see if it is fixed spontaneously. Let me know if the problem persists after you try access again. Also, you should know that as a registered member of the bbs you can edit your message if you change your mind within about half an hour or so by going to "edit profile" and finding the message and clicking on edit. I will also edit your message to add the pertinent part. Marty |

| Shelley Elena Farley (Arlon) | Sunday, April 30, 2000 - 05:06 am To Whom It May Concern: I been frustrated by the fact that accidentally clicking to another page loses everything I have written in the add mgs box. When the back or forward buttons do not work, is there another option for retrieveing what I just wrote? I just lost a long letter that I have no energy at this point to reproduce. This is not the first time. I have not read all of the above postings, maybe you could direct my attention to the answer there. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Elena |
| The Dzogchen Ponlop, Rinpoche (Dpr) | Friday, May 05, 2000 - 03:40 pm Hi Shelly, I am sure Marty or someone from the administration will be able to answer you. I hope they do it promptly. love and prayers -- dpr |
| Denise Raven (Lili) | Friday, May 05, 2000 - 04:50 pm Hi Elena, You will find the documentation on how to use the BBS software in the gold sidebar when you go to http://www.nalandabodhi.org/nbbbs/. The section on Troubleshooting should help you understand your difficulty. If you think you will often accidentally click outside your page or otherwise use the browser in the middle of adding a message, you might consider composing your message elsewhere such as in a text editor and then copying and pasting that text in the message box. For example in Windows 95/98/2000/NT you could use the Notepad accessory, then select all your text within Notepad and paste the selected text using <CTL><v> in the message window. The resulting format will not be perfect, but it will be readable. Good luck.
Regards, Lili Tharpa |
| Shelley Elena Farley (Arlon) | Friday, May 05, 2000 - 04:53 pm Dear Rinpoche, (I'm not sure how to address you...) Thank you so much for your note. I'm having far less trouble recently. I guess practice makes perfect! Truly, Elena |
| Shelley Elena Farley (Arlon) | Saturday, May 06, 2000 - 01:48 am OK, it just happened again. The answer was not in the trouble shooting section. I'm not sure a note pad transfer would really help the problem. Now that it happen again I see where it is happening. I had written a posting, had pushed the review posting/post button, read my post, found some typos and changes I wanted to make, and I pointed the pointer at the spot where I wanted the curser to go to correct spelling and the whole thing disappeared. Back button didn't pull it back. Nothing seems to and I'm not sure why it would go any where. I don't go to another page, I just get a blank screen in the "Add a Message" box....the answer isn't anywhere in the above postings either.... Thanks for help. Lost another long letter. May be the Sangha gods would like me to be a little quieter! No accidents, right! Whenever, Elena |
| Martin Marvet (Marty) | Saturday, May 06, 2000 - 02:39 pm Hi Elena, I am sorry I missed your message until now, but I see you have been undeterred in posting to the board. The behavior you refer to is baffling and we have never seen it before so cannot suggest what is happening. Your browser seems to be crashing, but I don't know why. Other than working in notepad as suggested by Lili, which will not prevent the problem but will allow you to avoid losing all your work, one thing to make sure about is that when you are correcting your post in the revise section, be aware there are _two_ message boxes. The one at the top is the preview box. You CANNOT edit in that, and trying to do so is probably the reason for your browser behavior. You must edit in the box below that one, under the "Revise Your Message" tag. That lower box is designed for editing and not display. Your browser should not crash merely by putting your cursor in the incorrect message box; there must be another system problem. Maybe being careful which box to edit in will help. Marty |
| Shelley Elena Farley (Arlon) | Saturday, May 06, 2000 - 04:13 pm Thanks Marty, I was editing in the right box. Guess it remains a mystery. Such is life... Sincerely, Elena |
| Anonymous | Wednesday, December 06, 2000 - 07:30 am Dear Excellent Webmasters The fruits of your labors are wonderful and it is obvious that you have been very, very busy. I was wondering if you intend to restore the archives for the first eight months of 2000 at some point. Thank you |
| Martin Marvet (Marty) | Monday, December 18, 2000 - 11:48 pm We hope to restore the archives. The archives were lost due to a server error, but we plan to try to rebuild them from a backup during a planned upgrade to the forums. |
